On 9th-10th November we had the meeting of our IYE-LABs local training in Istanbul, organised by our partners from Dinamik Gelisim Dernegi, which has focused on understanding the personal traits of our trainers and United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (hereinafter, SDGs). We started with a group task to build a spaghetti tower with the given materials and working in group to achieve. They had only 15 minutes to finish it and after they exposed their work and discussed how they felt during the task, how did they handle it, whether they had difficulties and disagreements. After a short collective reflection, we distributed to each one the “Reflexion Wheel. With this, they build a chart to themselves to see how introvert or extrovert they are as well as whether they like to plan or take action immediately to have something done. Then we gave them a copy of “Reflexion Wheel-2” and “Reflexion Wheel-3” and asked them to analyse themselves. They could recognize themselves with the description of the four profiles which are Planner, Dreamer, Maker and Celebrator.
During the afternoon we focused on SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) and how they are around us. They downloaded the app “SDG in Action” (https://sdgsinaction.com) which gives access to each indicator, see experiences around the world and share our activities. Group was introduced to the SGD and Youth and Sustainable Development Goals. We watched “How We Can Make the World a Better Place by 2030” video by Michael Green. After that, they discussed on how they perceive the SDGs in their daily life, could they, as a youth, realise something to stimulate local development, based on SDGs and how they can bring the SDG to their day-to-day lives. To enable them to bring the SDG to their day-to-day lives, we invited them to join the “Investigation Map” challenge. After that, they started to work on an investigation challenge to identify how SDGs are part of their daily lives. We finished the first day with the reflection. Until the next day, they had time to work on the “Investigation Map Challenge”. They picked 3 goals per person and worked on to pre-identify them.
On the second day, each participant presented their three pre-identifications. They showed and share what they have found, what could be improved and what they want to work on more comprehensively in the following meetings to create a local transform in Fethiye. We brainstormed about the problems, challenges, and opportunities related to SGDs in Fethiye and around. Then Dynamizers split the big group of participants into groups with 2 members in which they will work together to create elaborated Investigation Map Challenge in the upcoming two weeks together. We finished our second day with a short reflection.
