HOW TO SURVIVE A PANDEMIC
ELABORATION PROCESS
In order to elaborate this guide, a virtual methodology based on process work has been followed. Process work promotes transformation at an individual and collective level by working on the conflicts resolution and problems whether they are psychological, physical or social.
We have conceived this guide as an e-volunteering activity during which our participants put in practice the knowledge and lessons learned gained during the training itinerary phase.
In order to do so, we followed the following steps:
- 1st Intercultural virtual dialogue between youngsters from 4 different IYELABs in Croatia, Spain, Italy and Turkey.
- 2nd virtual exchange between youngsters in order to understand the crisis and the new scenario.
- Co-creation workshops during 15 days.
- Feedback workshop and closure.

MAY 2020
First virtual meeting
Participants from 4 field partners’ countries shared their project videos, sharing their experience in relation to IYE-LABs training process, lessons learned and project ideas. Participants also shared if they were planning to continue with their project ideas, if they changed something due to the coronavirus crisis and to what extent they think their idea was still useful after the emergency and with the new scenario.
Besides that, this section contains visual representations on which Sustainable Development Goals the international participants choose to focus on, as well as the results of the projects that were successfully implemented.
These were its specific objectives:
1. Sharing IYE-LABs insights, experiences and project ideas.
2. With the cooperation of the group, participants could decide the future of their locally oriented Projects. Participants could decide:
- to postpone their implementation until after the crisis,
- to adapt them to the current circumstances,
- To realize that their project ideas simply became feasible.
3. Presenting the How to survive a pandemic process and what they can expect.
MAY 2020
Second virtual meeting
During this second workshop, participants discussed about Covid-19 and the expected changes in our society, especially for young people, taking into account more disadvantages, such as the changes in relationships, the economy, the labor market, healthcare, arts….ect, and how we can deal with them.
Specific objectives:
1.Discussing the reality locally in relation to the Covid-19 crisis and its impact in relation to SDGs.
2. Discussing how this Covid-19 crisis is affecting Youth and most disadvantaged youth (migrants, minorities, discriminated groups, people living in most marginalized neighborhoods,…)
3. Detecting their keys to maintaining motivation: how are you living in isolation? How are you keeping your motivation in order to continue being involved in such an initiative?
4. Discussing how we could keep harder to reach peers’ motivation to run social impact projects.
5. Discussing on how we can make voluntary work more accessible to young people in connection to development goals.
JUNE 2020
Co-Creation Dynamics
Inspired by the LAB process experienced between september 2019 and march 2020, participants designed a common guide containing main steps that can help to achieve SDGs goals and targets in the new scenario, trying to alleviate future social inequalities, especially those of young people with disadvantaged backgrounds.
This guide aims at these specific objectives:
1. Cocreating a common guide in a common and collaborative space.
2. Guiding other young people all around europe on how to develop social impact projects in their communities.
3. To make possible that a group of youth could help other young people with a easy-to-use tool for the implementation of social impact projects.
JUNE 2020
Feedback Virtual Meeting
Participants and dynamizers will discuss the work being done and the guide structure and final format.
Specific objectives:
1. To disseminate the co-created guide among participants and give them feedback on their work.
2. To encourage participants to continue in touch with their peers.
3. To celebrate learnings and results.
4. To ask participants to be multipliers of the impact of this guide and help us with its dissemination.
How to survive a pandemic
The guide aims at co-creating solutions & innovations from participants’ insights to tackle the new scenario due to the coronavirus crisis & help to achieve SDGs and targets instead of or because of it.
Why did we do this guide?
With this initiative, we wanted not only to give continuity to the activities of IYE-LABs but also to provide moral support to young people isolated in their homes.
Our Guide’s sections
The guide is divided into three main sections: (1) Pilot projects, (2) Pilot projects in times of COVID-19 & (3) Create your own initiative.
