CROATIA | PILOT PROJECTS IN times of covid-19
HOW TO SURVIVE A PANDEMIC
The participants from Croatia designed 3 projects, focusing mainly on the SDG 3, 12 and 16.
IGRAONICA 5271
SDG 3: Good Health & Well-Being
Status: ON HOLD

Antun came up with the idea of creating the “Igraonica 5271” project in order to contribute towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goal 3, focusing on the loss of creativity while growing up and entering adulthood and its impact on mental health.
The project was initially designed to be implemented between October and December 2020, in Zagreb (Croatia), targeting adults.
The resources needed to implement the project were mainly connected to support in transporting the art pieces for the exhibition, the art gallery space and financial support for getting snacks and drinks for the art exhibition opening.
The identified stakeholders that Antun agreed that might be interested in participating and supporting the project are the Academy of Fine Arts Zagreb, Impact Hub Zagreb, Mojo bar Zagreb .
In order to tackle the issue of loss of creativity while growing up, which happens mostly through the education system and monotonous working environment, Antun, being a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb decided to create drawings that looked like they were made by children. Drawing like this wouldn`t include any pre thinking, developed skills, concepts, it was childish, playful, without restraints and it would inspire creativity in the people looking at it.
Antun decided to make sculptures of characters from his drawings:
- Antun as a boy
- a horse with three legs when he was imagining that he was a knight going into heroic battles
- a huge spider with a happy face
- a duck and fish that are memories from a family trip to a lake
- a mouse and cheese
- a dinosaur that represents his imaginary friend
- a nightmare – from going to school
- a skull that represents death of creativity and faint memories of childhood
Through the activities implemented, the results of his pilot project would be an increased awareness on maintaining creativity as people grow up, as well as an understanding of how art could be used to reconnect adults to their inner child.
ANTIPLASTIC
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Status: WORK IN PROGRESS

Luka, a participant who took part in the first IYELABS training program organized by Impact Hub Zagreb, decided to join the second round of the training program and work on developing his initial pilot project idea together with the new participants.
Luka came up with the idea of creating the “Antiplastic” project in order to contribute towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goal 12, particularly addressing the high amount of plastic waste at the Faculty of Science in Zagreb.
The project would be targeting the students and staff members of the Faculty of Science and the potential stakeholders that might be interested in participating and supporting the project are the Impact Hub Zagreb, Faculty of Science, City of Zagreb and various NGOs working in sustainable development.
In order to reduce the amount of plastic waste created at the Faculty of Science, Luka thought of doing workshops and panel discussions to address this issue.
If you want to know how Luka’s idea will be developed, check out the Impact Hub Zagreb webpage.
ALTERNATIVE CARE
SDG 16: Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions
Status: IMPLEMENTED

Tea, Doroteja and Antonia came up with the idea of creating the “Alternative Care” project in order to contribute towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goal 16, focusing on the alternative care institutions and the difficulties they might be facing.
The project was implemented between May and July 2020, in Zagreb (Croatia), targeting the alternative care institutions in the city.
The resources needed to implement the project were mainly connected to mentoring support from the Impact Hub Zagreb association.
The identified stakeholders that Tea, Doroteja and Antonia agreed that might be interested in participating and supporting the project are the alternative care institutions, Impact Hub Zagreb, City of Zagreb, Ministry of demography, families of patients in the alternative care institutions, young people and social politics groups.
In order to tackle the issue of potential struggles which the alternative care institutions are dealing with, the participants decided to make a series of phone calls and email sessions to detect the problems that these institutions are facing and potentially support them in solving their problems.
All of the institutions contacted said that they didn`t need their help or that didn`t have time to start any collaboration.
The conclusion of this process was that they didn’t research the problem well enough in the beginning. Most of their assumptions were based on one of the participant’s experience and assumption and not from actually checking directly with institutions first.
The lesson learned here is the importance of making a thorough initial research of the problem.
