ITALY | PILOT PROJECTS IN times of covid-19
HOW TO SURVIVE A PANDEMIC
The participants from Italy managed to adapt their projects to the new local context, focusing mainly on the SDG 4, 11, 12.

Marcella, with the support of the dynamizer from InCo Association, came up with the idea of adapting her project, initially designed as “Ability Walk”, into an online version as “Ability Talk”. The aim of her project is to contribute towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goal 4, focusing on understanding the architectural barriers that people in a wheelchair are experiencing everyday regarding their social and educational life during their study programs (university, Erasmus exchange students).
The project was implemented online, in Trento (Italy), targeting the erasmus international students in Trento, as well as the local community and local associations.
The resources needed to implement the project were mainly connected to the support of the Erasmus Student Network in sharing the contact of one of the students with disabilities that could be interviewed and the support of InCo Association throughout the implementation and dissemination process.
The identified stakeholders that Marcella agreed that might be interested in participating and supporting the project are the Erasmus Student Network Trento, the Handicrea Association, local students.
In order to tackle the issue of architectural barriers, Marcella decided to make an online interview with Beatrice Nonni who shared some of her thoughts on being a student with motoric disabilities. The interview explores the importance of talking about disability with young people, how is Trento meeting the needs of people with motoric disabilities and how organisations could be more active in this sector.
Through the activities implemented, the results of her pilot project would be an increased awareness regarding the difficulties people with motoric disabilities are facing daily, an increased understanding of how architecture can improve the quality of life and access to educational institutions of people with motoric disabilities.
Target 4.5 By 2030, eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to all levels of education and vocational training for the vulnerable, including persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples and children in vulnerable situations
Target 4.a Build and upgrade education facilities that are child, disability and gender sensitive and provide safe, non-violent, inclusive and effective learning environments for all.

GLASS CRAFTS
SDG 11: Sustainable Cities & Communities
Status: IMPLEMENTED (read about the previous project)

Leo came up with the idea of adapting his project, initially designed as “Crafts’n’tech”, into a smaller scale project based in Venice as “Glass Crafts”. The aim of his project is to contribute towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goal 11, particularly preserving the cultural heritage of the Venice region.
The project was implemented in september 2020, in Venice (Italy), targeting the young people and local artisans.
The resources needed to implement the project were mainly connected to the support from the local associations and local craftsmen.
The identified stakeholders that Leo agreed that might be interested in participating and supporting the project is the Venice Calls organisation and local artisans in Venice.
In order to tackle the issue of lack of visibility of glass artisans from Venice and the cultural heritage of this craft, Leo decided to create a series interviews and videos promoting their work thus giving more visibility to importance of preserving their culture.
Through the activities implemented, the results of his pilot project would be an increased interest from young people in local crafts , more visibility to local craftsmen and local events and a visual material promoting the local glass artisans in Venice.
Target 11.4 Strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage.

FOOD WASTE ON CAMPUS
SDG 12: Sustainable Cities & Communities
Status: IMPLEMENTED (read about the previous project)

Giulia, Silvia F., Consuelo and Silvia M. came up with the idea of adapting their project, initially designed as “Food Waste”, into an informational campaign for students living on campus.
The aim of their project is to contribute towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goal 12, focusing on tackling food waste and raising awareness on the statistics and impact of the current food waste trends worldwide and in Italy.
The project was implemented between June and October 2020, in Trento (Italy), targeting students living in the NEST dorms and local student networks.
The resources needed to implement the project were mainly connected to support offered by NEST, to print informational materials (flyers) using their printers and to give them the space and technological tools to make a presentation in their campus about their pilot project.
The identified stakeholder that Giulia, Silvia F., Consuelo and Silvia M. agreed that might be interested in participating and supporting the project is the NEST Cooperative.
In order to support local students into reducting their food waste on campus, the participants decided to make a photogallery with pictures and statistics connected to food waste and place them in the dorm rooms, together with some tips on how can they reduce their food waste.
Through the activities implemented, the results of their pilot project would be an increased awareness at a local level on available tools on food waste reduction as well as an increased awareness among the university students regarding available tools on food waste reduction.
Target 12.3 By 2030, halve per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses
