HOW TO SURVIVE A PANDEMIC

Participants from Spain designed 4 projects, focusing mainly on the SDGs 4, 11, 12 & 15.

ENTRE IGUALES

SDG 4: Quality Education

Status: ADAPTED

Angie, Susana and Olmo came up with the idea of creating the “Entre Iguales” project in order to contribute towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goal 4, focusing on emotional education and support systems. 

The project was initially designed to be implemented between March and June 2020, in Cordoba (Spain), targeting young people between 18 – 30 years old with emotional education concerns, as well as organisations active in the field of non-formal education programs for young people.

The resources needed to implement the project were mainly connected to mentoring support from La Akademia and Espiral Educativa. 

The identified stakeholders that Angie, Susana and Olmo agreed that might be interested in participating and supporting the project are the Instituto Andaluz de la Juventud , Delegación de Juventud del Ayuntamiento de Córdoba , Educational Institutions, youth organisations, as well as teachers and young people in general.

In order to tackle the issue of emotional education, the participants decided to organize face to face workshops, developing contents related to the topic, using online communication and organizational tools (such as whatsapp group, google drive, google form). At the end of their activities, they would do a social impact assessment to understand whether the activities implemented were helpful for the participants. 

Through the activities implemented, the results of their pilot project would be a peer to peer support group and communication channel, the template for the emotional education workshops and communication materials, as well as reports of the social impact assessment and lessons learned.

Target 4.a Build and upgrade education facilities that are child, disability and gender sensitive and provide safe, non-violent, inclusive and effective learning environments for all.

VERBENA 2030

SDG 11: Sustainable Cities & Communities

SDG 12: Responsible Consumption & Production

Status: On hold (the participants thought of making slight variations, but decided to postpone the project until it wil be possible to implement it)

Emilio, Mirko, Remedios and Maria came up with the idea of creating the “Verbena 2030” project in order to contribute towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goal 11 and 12, particularly strengthening community networks, building up a sustainable social fabric involving neighbours from all generations in the ‘La Axerquía’ area in the city. 

The project was initially designed to be implemented between March and June 2020, in Cordoba (Spain), targeting the people living in the La Axerquia neighbourhood.

The resources needed to implement the project were mainly connected to the support from the neighbourhood association AVV La Axerquia.

The identified stakeholders that Emilio, Mirko, Remedios and Maria agreed that might be interested in participating and supporting the project are the Instituto Andaluz de la Juventud, Delegación de Juventud del Ayuntamiento de Córdoba,  AVV La Axerquia, local institutions and ngos, as well as people living in other neighbourhoods.

In order to tackle the issue of sustainable communities, intergenerational coexistance, social individualism, depopulation of the city’s central districts and lack of community spaces, the participants decided to search for community meeting places, support the people living in the neighbourhood to share their ideas of living in a community and of the connections between neighbours, raise awareness regarding the local shops.  At the end of their activities, they would do a celebration of the process that the community did together and a declaration of the neighbourhood. 

Through the activities implemented, the results of their pilot project would be an interactive map of local and sustainable shops in the neighbourhood and a more resilient community . Through the needs diagnosis in the neighbourhood from the perspective of inter-generational exchange, the participants could make a statement for the decision makers in the city to improve the quality of life in the neighbourhood.

CRISÁLIDA

SDG 15: Life on Land

Status: ON HOLD

Carmen Lucia came up with the idea of creating the “Crisalida” project in order to contribute towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goal 15, focusing on tackling invasive plant species in the city. 

The project was initially designed to be implemented between March and June 2020, in Cordoba (Spain), targeting Ayuntamiento de Córdoba and the mainstream residents, mainly children and teens.

The resources needed to implement the project were mainly connected to support from Sociedad cordobesa de historia natural and communication materials from the local authorities (Ayuntamiento de Córdoba). 

The identified stakeholders that Carmen Lucia agreed that might be interested in participating and supporting the project are the Sociedad cordobesa de historia natural, educational institutions, teachers and the mainstream residents. 

In order to tackle the issue of invasive plant species in Cordoba and advocate for the prevention of the introduction of new invasive species in the city , Carmen Luica decided to organize Awareness-raising workshops and talks, make surveys to understand the community’s perspective, gather information and create informational materials. At the end of their activities, she would develop a proposal for change in the gardening process in the city of Cordoba . 

Through the activities implemented, the results of her pilot project would be a series of educational workshops regarding the topic of invasive plants prevention, informational materials and a Proposal for change in the gardening process in the city of Cordoba that could be presented to the city council.

SDG 15.  Life on Land: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss

Target 15.8 By 2020, introduce measures to prevent the introduction and significantly reduce the impact of invasive alien species on land and water ecosystems and control or eradicate the priority species trengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage.

SUMAMOS CON

SDG 12: Responsible Production and Consumption

Status: ADAPTED

Carlos, Alba and Mirko came up with the idea of creating the “Sumamos con” project in order to contribute towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goal 12, focusing on promoting ecological and responsible consumption, giving visibility to good practices that are currently being implemented in school canteens and community kitchens. 

The project was initially designed to be implemented between March and June 2020, in Cordoba (Spain), targeting the public schools in the city (those with a built in kitchen), community canteens and mainstream residents.

The resources needed to implement the project were mainly connected to support from Alimentando Córdoba, Audiovisual equipment will be loaned by the university and communication support from Fundacion Xul.

The identified stakeholders that Carlos, Alba and Mirko agreed that might be interested in participating and supporting the project are the Centre for Rural Studies and International Agriculture (CERAI), Carasso Foundation, University of Cordoba, Ayuntamiento de Córdoba, as well as Local associations and NGOs interested in the responsible consumption and access to food and Local producers and sellers.

In order to promote the benefits of consuming local and organic products, the participants decided to make a series of interviews and a field research documented via an audiovisual material. At the end of their activities, they would make a dissemination campaign to highlight the good local practices in relation to responsible consumption.

Through the activities implemented, the results of their pilot project would be a video of the good practices they identified and a video presentation event in order to promote the replicability of the good practice models.

SDG 12 Responsible Consumption and Production: Ensure sustainable production and consumption patterns

Target 12.3. By 2030, ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature.
